Yeb Wiersma graduated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Fine Arts) in Amsterdam after which she continued her studies at Cooper Union in NYC. Recently she was selected as an artist-in-residence at the van Eyck Academie, Maastricht. Her works have been presented by De Oude Kerk, A Tale of a Tub, WEST, FOAM Amsterdam, Museum De Paviljoens, The Gentlewoman Magazine, Swiss Book Designs, Jinji Lake Art Museum Suzhou a.o.

Her PROJECTS inhabit a playful, wayward register very much of her own. Through her hybrid oeuvre – video, printed matter, interventions and performance – she recognizes and enables migratory relations between different people, times and places, visible and invisible forces, animate and inanimate objects, as well as interrogates how the nature and language of these relationships can be reinterpreted through visual and spatial interpretation. By doing so, she evokes an experimental, fluid space allowing us to critically examine and diversify the ‘script’ in which we figure – that of our brief existence.

Her PRACTICE is shaped by the belief that being in motion and in relation, and the application of embodied, observational skills – the suspension of interpretation –  spark alternative, sensory and inclusive routes of knowledge making. Her methodology comes to life through her visual art projects, teachings and curatorial activities.
